Mount Kent is found after a 45-minute drive from MPA. Take the MPA – Stanley road and turn North on the road that leads between Mount Challenger and Wall Mountain, the Port Louis road. Continue along the road following it around the base of Mount Kent (to the West) until Mount Vernet comes into view. Park at the lay-by which is situated near aircraft wreckage and opposite the lower buttress, which can be reached after a short walk.
There is excellent climbing potential of varying grades on what is generally sound rock with good friction, though dirty in places. During the Falklands war the mountain was home to the SAS directing air attacks on to Argentine positions below, with the wrecks of two Argentine helicopters, bombed during the war, within the valley. Both of which are located near the lay-by and are readily available for a visit. The climbing area can be found on the northern slopes of the mountain and is located on three buttresses all within easy access of the lay-by.
From the road both buttresses can be clearly seen, after a fifteen-minute walk the lower buttress is reached with the upper buttress only being a further five minutes away and north-eastern buttress to the left of this.
