Crag features

A little bit of Fontainebleau in the middle of the city, this collection of nine artificial boulders lies within the River Clyde’s ‘Cuningar Loop’. Managed by Forestry & Land Scotland, they were created from the 2014 Commonwealth Games legacy fund. The park is part of the Clyde Gateway project and located on reforested land in a loop of the River Clyde east of Dalmarnock and north of Rutherglen. The ‘loop’ is a pleasant urban activity park of 15 wooded hectares and can be busy at weekends and after school, so early mornings are best for solitude. The boulders are made from sculpted resin concrete which is generally rough but polished on descents and on some holds. The boulders are skirted with generous gravel traps so only a small crash mat or doormat is needed to keep the shoes clean. The park has four main areas from beginners to advanced, totalling nine blocs. The biggest single bloc is the overhanging Mammoth Bloc, but the hardest problems lie on the Scratch boulder. It is fun to create circuits of problems to mimic the style of climbing at Fontainebleau.

The Vulcan, Arcadia and Scratch boulders have steel anchor loops on the top so bring a biner and a short end (2-3m) of rope to help with descents - otherwise they can be quite sketchy!
