Autumn cragging © richgac

Crag features

This large crag rises from the woodland on the east shore of Gandsfjorden. It consists of a smaller, southwest facing slabby buttress known as Hammeren which curves round the main, multi-levelled crag, Hovedveggen, facing to the southeast.

Many of the higher climbs begin on ledges accessible by easy scrambles or ladders, with these higher sections providing a commanding view of the Fjord and surrounding area. The crag has a mix of fully and partially bolted routes as well as a significant number of traditionally protected climbs.

Approach notes

As with much of Norway, access is unrestricted on non-agricultural land. Follow the road North past the hospital from Dale, passing a football field on the left and parking area on the right. After 50m, an obvious track turns off to the right. Taking this path and vearing left before following the right side of an open field will lead straight up to Hammeren, while following the main forest track for ~400m and stricking uphill through the trees leads straight to the main crag.

Lots of red ants at this crag! I liked the look of Luffes Marerritt but it was an ant highway.
