Approach notes

From Tarascon-sur-Ariège, follow the D8 south through Vicdessos and Auzat to Marc, then turn right, following signs to l'Artigue. Just before the end of the road, there is a sharp right bend and ample parking space either side of the bend itself or just below in a large parking area.

The path leads up and left from near the village but it is gained most easily by taking one of a number of steep paths directly up the hillside from the bend in the road. Once on the signposted route, the path rises and traverses the hillside, then curves around to rejoin the l'Artigue river at a small bridge. Stay on the same side of the river and follow a path marked with yellow dots, which zig-zags up the hillside then exits leftwards to the base of La Raspe - a huge scree slope running diagonally up beneath the craggy ridge. Near the top of La Raspe is the impressive southwest face of the Pic de Belcaire, with its distinctive line of low overhangs marking the base of the climbs. There are several water sources enroute before reaching La Raspe. The walk-in will take most parties around 3 hours.
