A lovely 7b+ at Roquefixade in the Ariège © chez Arran

Crag features

A fine lump of old-school rock with the inevitable castle on its crest; Roquefixade has a reasonable set of sport routes on the lower walls. The upper part of the face is generally loose and vegetated. There may occasionally be wobbly holds on the routes described - be aware of tourists on the track below the crag as they pass on their way to the castle.

The crag faces southwest. It can be warm here even in the depths of winter. It is high enough to catch the wind, but dries quickly after rain.

Approach notes

The village of Roquefixade is situated about 15km west of Foix. This can be reached by the direct, but slow D9A, or via the D117, which runs a little further south and is a quicker route. There is parking in the village square (check the fountain with the goldfish) or outside the village if this is full. A track leads out of the northeast corner of the square to the crag.
