Crag features

Cala Firriato is situated below Rocca Firriato and is a friendly DWS venue with low and slightly overhanging walls, providing a number of micro routes, extended boulder problems and popular traverses. The area is good for beginners but challenging enough to keep more experienced climbers entertained. There are two sections; the main area and Red Wall, situated approximately 100m further on. This area can be very popular when it is hot especially during holiday seasons.

Approach notes

The area is located on the east side of the headland, past San Vito Lo Capo, and beyond the magnificent Monte Monaco. Follow the SP63 around the headland east and then south towards the Zingaro Reserve. If coming from the south there is a bypass breaking off right before you reach San Vito. Continue for approximately 3.5km to a small bridge with an off-road parking area to the left. Please park carefully since this is used as a turning point.

Walk 70m south across another bridge and head down a gravel road on your left to the sea, to the point where it veers to the right. Continue straight towards the sea and the main DWS area is roughly in front of you. The Red Wall area is approximately 100m further left (looking out to sea) along the cliff where a hidden alcove lies. It is possible to drive down this gravel track in an off-road vehicle and there is also parking at the bottom.

There are two brilliant places for deep water solo or psicobloc(climbing above water with no harness, rope, belayer or fear of bone crunching falls, since the climber just falls into the water). more info and photos www.moredaysoff.com
