Crag features

Croatia's largest island, Krk is connected to the mainland by a bridge. Among many hiking trails on the island, there are now 5 main areas for rock climbing - Portafortuna, Belove Stene, sea Bag, Biergötter and  Bunculuka. These areas are located around the town of Baska, at the southern end of the island.

The diverse collection of crags should easily satisfy most climbers at the lower end of the grade range (4-6b/c) for a week or so. Proximity to the sea, a good tourist infrastructure which is largely unused and reasonably cheap during the best times for climbing, solid if sometimes sharp rock and good protection combine for a family holiday destination. Routes were opened by a variety of Slovenian, Austrian, German and Croatian climbers, with quite some potential for development being left.

In addition to the sports climbing described here, Slovenians climbed some 20 easy multi-pitch (III-IV) trad lines documented at plezanje.net on the slopes south of town.

Approach notes

Access notes are with the main sector descriptions.

To make it easier to identify the routes I have added a topo picture.

This a a relatively new crag, and therefore has some loose rock. There is a band of shattered loose rock in the area of Oldie, Black Beauty and Pink Lady in the last few metres. Be very careful!!
