Barton Hill Cliff. © deepstar
A small cliff overlooking the village of Barton. Mostly covered in thick Ivy.At the foot of a gully in the centre of the cliff is a small cave which 1500 years ago was a Wolf Den (the remains of the wolves and their prey can be seen in Wells Museum). As the cliff is North Facing and exposed to the weather it can be a good place for winter climbing practice.
Note: As of 01/03/24 the crag has been fenced off by the landowners from the bottom, and is completely overgrown with bracken and gorse (especially the gully)
Best reached from the Crook Peak/Wavering Down footpath.
still couldn't find den. Enough rock, although not too solid in places, to put up some routes. Esoteria rules here. leland stamper - 01/Jan/15 |
