Crag features

Saint Floret nestles in the valley of the Couze (river) Pavin. The climbing site is used for educational purposes, so often has groups.

Being north facing, and literally by the river, the rock doesn't get much sun, but is a good place to seek out the shade in the height of summer. Single pitch climbs, on average 10m to 20m in length, with grades ranging from French 4C to 7A, mostly top-roped. The site has an overhanging section to the east, with the face easing off westwards (towards the bridge in the centre of the village).

Approach notes

From the A75 motorway, take any of the exits for Issoire (junctions 11, 12, 13 or 14). Navigate through Issoire, heading west, looking for signs to Perrier D996 (also initially signposted Champeix/St. Nectaire). Drive through Perrier village (not of sparkling water fame), and then turn left out of Perrier onto the D26. This road takes you all the way to Saint Floret. The rock is visible on your right over the other side of the river Pavin as you drive into the village.

Do not park in front of the Hôtel-Restaurant "Le Dristan", but seek out parking spaces within the village itself. To get to the crag, cross the road bridge over the river in the centre of the village and then turn left to walk downstream along the river approximately 50m.
