Crag features

A large magnesium limestone boulder set in woodland, at around 15 ft high with trees on top. Just been cleaned by Mark Bennett an Robert Oakton. Single pitch boulder problems, crash mat needed. Landings flat, good, depending which side you climb. Top outs can be on loose rock, you've been warned.. Grades from (font) 4+ / 7b location a secret till further notice. Please be patient. Thanks Rob, Mark.

Update from Tony Simpson 21-03-13

This boulder is good for anyone living in the local area but is not really significant on a national scale. * routes are of local importance only and none of the problems would get a start if looking on a national scale.

Approach notes

This boulder and the others in the surrounding area although are on open access land are situated next to a new development of luxury houses / appartments, the boulder it's self can be seen from the penthouse rooms and appartments and so all care should be taken when arriving at the area and also climbing on the rocks. Noise must be kept to a minimum and smallish groups only please, we do not want to draw unwanted attention to climbing in these areas. Also there has been a spate of tree felling and triming in the area, This can nolonger be tolerated and if you find any felled trees please drag them away to an area of woodland where they will not be noticed.

First visit here today. The bloc looks pretty unappealing, but a lot of the lines climb surprisingly well. Most are at least a couple of grades easier than listed and the odd one is a little harder than suggested, but that's to be expected with somewhere that sees such little traffic. On the subject of which, bring a decent sized brush! The main challenge on most of the routes is the dust.

I have just been up to this boulder with Mike Adams. Well what a fantastic time I have had, I managed to flash the 8a+ which now means I have flashed as hard as I have ever bouldered and this was just my warm up.. Knew I was climbing well again but so psyched to have flashed such a hard problem. Then went on to clean up the sit start and add the extension into the 8a+. A few foot holds came away as did the big edge which should have been the obvious start.. So a hardiest pull on into an 8a+ must make it at least 8b.. How good am I actually climbing as it did not feel at my limit. In fact after doing the other problems that were dry both myself and Mike set about an eliminate to my new sitter. Now this felt grades harder possible 2 to 3 grades above, but to my disappointment Mike got the first ascent and I just managed not hang the crux so I can't claim to have bouldered even harder but I am sure Mike will be along to claim his 8c/ 9a mag lime prize before too long.. Fantastic boulder lads if somewhat in dream world.

Interesting to see someone has bothered to document this little block. Does anyone know if they have cleaned the quarry up at the top left of the woods?
