Crag features

The bouldering in Mitake is centered around the Tama riverbed. Some of Japan's famous boulder problems can be found in the Mitake area. Mitake is the closest bouldering area to Tokyo, and is often busy with Tokyo boulderers. It has more than 400 problems listed, and the riverbend rock is often slippery to the touch, with unexistent footholds.

Approach notes

Go to JR Mitake station and walk down to the river or follow the road to the different areas. The is no combini at Mitake at the moment, so bring your own food. JR Sawai station is closer to some of the bouldering areas (Rocky boulder).  Note that the Mitakekohashi bridge was destroyed in the 2019 typhoon.

No Access Issues

There is a dam upstream. When hearing the water discharge siren, please stay away from the river. The area is popular for hiking, fishing, canoeing, and rafting. When canoeing races are taking place, please do not touch the ropes placed across the river. There are toilets around the river area, please use them.
