Groudle Topo © Nik Jennings

Crag features

A pleasant wall with a handful of good routes on rock that varies from good to slightly adventurous. Awkward access. Belays at the top are a dodgy small ring-bolt in a rock above the crag and slinging some gorse bushes, it all adds to the atmosphere...

Approach notes

Park at Groudle. From the carpark cross the bridge then head up the hill to the model train track. Head rightwards along the train track to its end, then go through a gate and take a very vague "path" along the coast crossing a stream then a couple of barbed wire fences. As you approach the crag can clearly be seen as an obvious face at sea level. At the top of the crag it's probably easiest to pre-arrange a belay by slinging gorse and tying off the dodgy looking ring-bolt. Then scramble down fairly easily to the North of the face. There is a large ledge to belay from below the crag which gets smaller as the tide rises, but remains usable unless the sea rough and the tide is high. To be honest probably easiest approached with someone who knows where they're going...
