Approach to Suisnish © Tom Last

Crag features

Nice sunny, south-facing area in a beautiful and quiet location. Enough climbing for a chilled day away from the hills. It's a fair trek from the road-end but the walk is nice along a decent track so goes quickly. The main slab and adjoining pillar are at sea level just above the normal high tide mark and the buttress of Carn Dearg is on the hill side above. Good coverage in Mark Hudson's 2012 SMC Skye Sea-Cliffs and Outcrops guide

Approach notes

Park at Camas Malag at the end of the track off the Elgol road. Walk for miles and miles past Suisnish Point, the cleared village ruins and the crumbling cottage and sheep shed. The bottom of the sandy gully leading downhill marks the point to leave the path, double-back and down to the crag. The ground below Carn Dearg is steep and bouldery.

Left a 120cm sling on top of the pillar on 8/8/15 as there was no tat, rappelled off it to retrieve gear from hvs up the centre of the pillar which doesn't appear to be listed hear, great route worth E1 due to serious start.

Chopped the ab tat on the pillar today, there is now a new sling in place but I'd advise taking your own cord or being cautious with the new piece.

Update. Removed all the rotted tat from the top of the pillar and left a single 120cm sling at another spot from the previous stuff. If your planning on heading that way then take some tat of your own.

Abseil point on the frontal pillar could be doing with replacing by the looks of it. First visit since i moved to Skye and certainly not my last, great wee crag !
