Crag features

This once quarried outcrop is situated where the track from Velvet Bottom joins the National Trust part of the Gorge and is best reached by following the track from Black Rock Gate at the top of Cheddar Gorge.Although loose it is worth the walk. There are several bolts at the top of the crag(without hangers).

Major rockfall on the left of the crag winter 2019/2020

Approach notes

Park at the top of the Gorge, lock cars securely.Follow the track from Black rock Gate for about half a kilometre until you come to a large restored Limekiln on the left, the crag is behind this.Although groups are not welcome individual climbers are allowed.

A load of new routes detailed on Martin Crocker’s website. https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5fb50e3490cc1c797604ab3a/t/61e9d519428b0b1cee6aed40/1642714411340/Black+Rock+quarry.pdf

Loads of huge rockfalls seen today. Some huge blocks.

Worth a short visit for Black Rock Corner (tough move at the start but mostly solid rock) but the other HVSs look a bit adventurous due to massive loose blocks...
