Crag features

This is a spectacular climbing area with the longest sport roues on the island. Routes are sometimes over 35 metres in height, usually stamina roues on rock that is not always perfect. The rock formation and crag height have led to a mixtures of styles combing both sport climbing and traditional routes. it is south facing and warm

Approach notes

Please respect the entrances to houses and fields and during the nesting period (February - June) do not go past the pine tree. If you can see that the hawk has nested before the pine tree, do not climb the routes nearby. Pick up your litter etc

Restricted Access

As the craig is in a protected area a permit is required prior to access and climbing.
The permit can be acquired on the webpage: http://centralreservas.tenerife.es/actividad/4 (only in Spanish)
Maximum of 70 persons per day.

Parking area mentioned below was chained off... Many routes we saw ended on a single bolt with ring.

The Tenerife Excalada Deportiva guide book suggests that you park near the last houses (16/18) on the road up to El Chorro. However, one of the residents of these houses asks that climbers park further up in the big car park on the right instead, which is just beyond the last house. He is worried as cars pulling off the road opposite the houses risk the village's water supply (the vulnerable pipes on the surface). A cairned path leads from the back of car park to join the crag path at the large prominent pine. Fantastic crag in a great location, easily the best on the island.

A big, inspiring and extensive crag. We went on a cloudy day in January and conditions were perfect but being south facing I suspect it could be very hot on sunny days, even in winter. Well worth checking out though.
