Burnside Bouldering Wall © RAB623

Crag features

A pleasant, clean little bouldering wall in the woods near Aviemore. Notoriously hard to find. The slab right of the wall offers short easy solos.

A 1:25000 map is useful - note that the marker on the satellite map above is exact. Drive up through the new housing development at High Burnside to park at Patterson Place, go through a gate situated between two houses. Follow a landrover track on the left. About 200m down there is a stream that crosses the path, this has stones crossing it so a little balance is required to avoid wet feet. You will then come to a snakes tongue in the path, strike off left until you come to a deer fence that is propped open by a wedge. Turn right once through the gap and keep the fence on your right until you meet a pyramid turnstile, go over this. It has three rings that may be slippy when wet. The wall is about 100m beyond this on the left forming the western side of a small ridge. From Patterson Place it is about a 10-15 minute walk into the crag. Look out for the red squirrels in the trees on the way.
