Summit of this hill

This summit has been climbed in 22 logbooks.

Hill features

A brilliant little bouldering crag, miles from anywhere (despite the short walk-in). Very nice setting - Northumberland's answer to Font!

Approach notes

Permission is no longer needed from the farmhouse; they are happy for people to climb at Dovehole at anytime. The estate has an open access policy but as always, if any access problems occur be diplomatic and report to the Estate office.

Park carefully, avoiding the gates, and take all rubbish away.

This was a very popular venue in the late 80's with Edinburgh climbers and myself, Rab Anderson, along with Colin Mckee, Pete Henderson did many new problems we think at that time, including some of the now named classics. One of the most fun venues in the County with low consequence problems in a great place.

Lovely mix of slabs and overhangs. Have never run into another group here. A few of the top outs have gotten quite lichen covered, could do with a bit of a brush. Also whoever developed this crag is a master of puns, love the time that must have gone into naming climbs.

Beautiful and quiet spot with great views towards the Cheviots. Can be frustratingly sandy at times but there's some real quality climbing to be had.
John 'B' Hutchinson - 16/Aug/11
Some good problems here although a few are getting sandy! Needs a few days to dry out completely however there are some problems that dry out quicker than others..
