This is an old dissused railway bridge 15ft high made from Brick, with weathered edges and pockets, just south of Newbury on the Hampshire Berkshire border. There are 15-20 routes - from easy to Font 6b/6c boulder problem. Gravel base - can get a little overgrown.
One North and one South face, and a bridge connecting them. Rusted metal bar at the top of the north face - useful for avoiding the hawthorne. Mostly good top-out and easy scramble down through trees (on the south side).
The walls are on the east side of the A34, where the A34 takes the route of an old railway line. Park in the layby on the west side of the A34 (ie heading north), just by the pylons, then cross over - it's a proper crossing place for the walk down from the ridge behind Highclere Castle but take care.

Not bad for a weekday evening bimble if you live locally... not good either. A couple of problems worth doing if you can avoid the nettle forest, no 3 stars here (a 'crag' I don't think). The wildlife in the field beyond was more interesting. Lancs lass - 13/May/11 |
