Cloud tsunami crashes into the Pennine hills © craig h

Crag features

The whole edge dominates the A62 as it ascends from the sleepy hamlets of Delph and Diggle. Essentially a great little bouldering crag with a disappointing main quarry. The whole area has a gentle and welcoming feel to it, and you are unlikely to encounter (m)any other climbers here. If you do, solitude is only a few steps away on a different bit of this fine Pennine grit.

Good topo here.

Approach notes

Park at the large car park at the Pennine Bridleway crossing. Cross the road and follow the main Bridleway northwest for about 5 mins, through a gate in the second wall, and then turn sharp left for the main quarry. The main quarry is now fenced off, BMC are aware of this change reported 12 November 2022. The regular car park is currently closed for construction work (July 2022 onwards), there is a long layby a short walk away on the downhill Yorkshire side.

No Access Issues

The recently fenced area around the quarry seems to be associated with the nearby dog training business. Please avoid any conflict here.

the eastern problems and main quarry are on private land- keep the noise down to prevent incurring the wrath of the local farmer. Once over the final stile (or kissing gate as it is now) the boulders lie on access land below the pennine way- the first of these being "the place sheep go to die" I have never seen any dead sheep there and I wouldn't want to- the sheep on that moor belong to me!! The Kirklees guide is excellent.

Great bouldering along the edge, Square, Cheese Block and 'Sit Start' area well worth the walk in, nice and peaceful, quality problems - excellent views :-)

The bouldering is ace, as is the view. The quarry however makes Worlow look like Millstone Edge...

Forget about the quarry and head along the Pennie Way for some bouldering along the edge. Pack your Huddersfield Bouldering Guide and enjoy.
