Snow March to Deeply Vsle! © paget

Crag features

Good quality quarried gritstone, ideal for evenings. Slabs, roofs, aretes and corners. Lots to do at VS and above. About 10m high.

Approach notes

No problems. Don't block the gate or road when parking on the track. The crag is further down (500m) the track set back on the right.

At the end of the straight track for the parking - turn immediately right and follow the fence line to approach from the top of the crag (not dangerous). If you go down and approach from the bottom it's very very muddy as there are now cows below.

NOTE - As of summer 2023 there is a Kestrel nesting in the hole of Central Arete. It is suggest to avoid climbing on both main areas of the crag. Bouldering at the far left hand side is unlikely to cause disturbance.

Access Advice

In early 2021, bolts appeared in the quarry on an existing route (first lead in 1981) and will be removed. Bolts are NOT welcome and should only ever placed in line with local agreements:

  • To replace existing bolts when there is no alternative
  • Where specifically agreed after discussion at an area meeting
  • Where required in order to secure access.

Seasonal Restrictions

Dates: 1 June to 30 June

Reason: Nesting Birds

1 June 2023: kestrels  reported as nesting on Central Arete - please avoid routes around here until the birds have fledged.

Very green tonight (17/5/16) Did our spot of gardening on The Crack, Slab Dab & Renegade Chimney - Would like to come in the morning to catch the sun

Went here friday 25-9-15 Seems to be returning to nature abit hopefully will get more climbing traffic to help it stay in condition. All the work done in past years well done Still a nice place to climb

Had an evening soloing here the other evening and it's still mainly in good clean condition. I did think that the bolts on mein kampf were un-necessary but thanks for the work done in the other areas.

Thanks to those lads that have been down to Deeply this summer. As you have mentioned the MOB have put a lot of time in to bring the crag back up to scratch. All the best lines have had the tops cut back and clean with some new bouldering being excavated. It's been a good team effort.

Excellent work by the MOB, e.g. top outs on Ha'penny Arete are now rock and not heather. The Inflection wall has been cleaned. Bouldering in the end bays...
