Hanging Rock from Raz Causeway © Toerag
This is a 60ft high lump of sandstone on the side of the cliff below Fort Essex - very visible from Raz Island. Legend has it that Guernseymen tied a rope onto it and tried to pull Alderney back to Guernsey, but the rope broke! Its overhanging seaward face is unclimbed as far as we know. The top may have loose rock as it was shortened by the Germans in WW2.
Park by Fort Essex, follow the cliffpath a short way south then scramble down to the rock.
