Crag features

Visible from the road, Sgùrr Sgaladail can be clearly seen looking up Gleann Sgaladail past Creag Mo. It is a huge, dark foreboding cliff nearly 1km long and over 200m high which dominates the head of the glen. Unfortunately, although there is a fair amount of unclimbed rock, there is much vegetation and the cliff is wet, dank and dingy. It requires a prolonged spell of dry weather for the cliff to come into condition and even then it is doubtful whether the seepage ever dries completely.

Approach notes

Heading north from Tarbert, the A859 to Stornoway drops steeply down the hill towards sea-level again after swinging round the flanks of An Cliseam. Creag Mò can be seen straight ahead here. At the foot of the hill, where the road swings round over a bridge across the Abhainn Sgaladail, there is off-road parking on the west side of the road, on the north side of the bridge.

From here, follow the rough path up Gleann Sgaladail. Continue to the bend in the river before heading up to the foot of the cliff.
