Ross and Al on The Faither Prophecy, E1 5a, The Faither, Shetland © PWhitworth

Crag features

This is split into three areas:

Arched Wall:

The wall opposite Faither stack which is descended by the line of the abseil for approaching the stack. Routes can be climbed from the tidal platform as an alternative to a long jumar up the wall after climbing the stack. The wall is broken in its lower half by a black right slanting ramp line and is made up of large pockets.

Prophecy Wall:

The wall is easily seen to the north of the Arched Wall and is also SW facing. The routes can be climbed at mid to high tide from a hanging belay.

Hidden Wall:

This wall is NE facing and cannot be viewed from the land.

A wide range of cams are useful for Arched Wall and Prophecy Wall.

Approach notes

The Faither (far point) is the most northerly point of land to the west of Ronas Voe.

Approach: Park just outside Tingon Farm by the final gate (HU248828) and walk north to the headland (1 hour).

WARNING

Geese frequently nest in the North area of The Faither. Geese and their goslings have been found in the area of the routes. Caution should be used when approaching the area of the climbs as there are few options for any birds to move away. The Arched Wall and Prophecy Wall are likely to be OK if geese are found to be there as they will move away if you are patient. An approach to the NW Corner and North Wall should not be made if geese and goslings are present as the birds will not be able to move away whilst you are present as the area is not escapable.

Arched Wall Access:

A 50m free hanging abseil from the cliff top down Arch Wall (as for Faither Stack)to a wave washed platform. A 100m abseil rope is required as anchor points are spaced out.

Prophecy Wall Access:

Abseil down the left arete to ledges.

Hidden Wall Access:

Abseil just left of the arete of Prophecy Wall.
