The craggy old wooded hillside above the west end of Aberfoyle. It is characterised by a south-facing scree slope and big quarry with associated boulders. About a dozen good problems exist with scope for more.
Park at David Marshall Lodge up the Duke's Pass road (charge), cross the road and follow the track uphill to a stand of oak trees where the path steepens, then contour left on old quarry track to the large quarry. There are a few boulders here and impressive-looking routes on the quarry walls, though the rock is seriously loose in places. As it is a protected area, no bolting has taken place and bouldering is the norm. Further downhill from the quarry is a collection of boulders above the church in the woods (some parking on the road in front of the church, then a ten minute hike uphill in the woods behind the cul-de-sac of houses). Please respect the protected nature of the area.
Protected national park.Possible bird bans and bouldering only.
Has anyone climbed this slab ?
Every time I drive under it makes me think "should I check it out....." Nick_Scots - 03/Jan/21 |
