Crag features

Lovely small crag, filled with flakes, crimps and cracks.  Some great micro-routes/highballs and bouldering. Belay rings and stakes in-situ for belays. See photos for Topos. Most of the routes face south west and dry easily, the rest face north west and can be damp through the winter. The bouldering faces south east so is great in all but the hottest weather.

Approach notes

Up High Bank lane in Thurlstone near Penistone until it becomes a track after the last house. Continue past the trans pennine sign on the left then a large yellow locked gate on the right - after another 50 yards take the right turn marked trans pennine way (rough) this leads to good parking beside the quarry. Or slightly easier - carry on 50 yards past the turning and enter the top of the quarry via a few deep ruts

OS grid ref. SE 22522 03586

Some signs of use in the base of the quarry. Fire pits, disguarded tents and litter etc.  Mostly around the base of the west wall.

Access Advice

Up the small single track High Bank Lane near Penistone - privately owned Open Access Land.

the quarry has recently changed ownership and the new owner has put up a fence around the quarry however there is a stile one end and a kissing gate the other as the land is still open access and therefore climbing is still allowed at present. 8/7/2023

There was an accident 4/7/18 involving mountain rescue and ambulance after a piece of rock at the top of one of the faces (not one with any routes on) collapsed whilst a person was stood on top. Climb at your own risk and beware loose rock, especially closer to the top of the crag on a couple of sections.
