Crag features

Arabaux is a small hamlet tucked under the folds of the Plantaurel, one of a range of hills that form the Pre-Pyrenees. The climbing is scattered around the rocky limestone ridge to the north of the settlement. The quality of the climbing here is nothing special, but it does add another crag into the mix, particularly for those staying nearby, and the weather can be better here than in the high hills. Sector Initiation is useful and there is some decent bouldering on the central tier, though it is quite a long way to haul a bouldering mat!

The crag faces southwest, is sunny and quick drying. It is quite exposed to the wind and might catch a breeze on hot days.

Approach notes

From Foix centre, drive north on the D919 for 700m and branch right at the lights onto the D1 - signed Laroque d'Olmes and Lieurac. Follow this road for 4km to a left turn signed to Arabaux. The road winds up into the village to a small parking area by the church - room for 4 or 5 vehicles. Walk up into the village. Just around the first bend, a track signed to the climbing branches left and heads up towards the open hillside. On leaving the trees Sector Initiation is away on the left, the Upper Tier is up the track.

Sector Initiation - not very inspiring. However, the situation is pleasant and the rock is not polished. Low angle slabs, mainly, with balancy climbing.

A bit like a slightly bigger bolted version of Hutton Roofs. Not a great crag, but in the rain shadow of the mountains so can be dry when wet elsewhere. Apparently the bouldering is better than the routes.
