βeta: There is a wall running up to the outcrop, coming from a sheep fold at a break in the ridge where a faint path traverses. Right of the wall is a scree chute that is fed by Eastern Gully, ascend this to get to the start of the route. As the sides of the gully rise-up progress is halted by a rock barrier that is usually wet, Needle's Eye Arête bounds the right side of the gully and an obvious path goes up right from the barrier to start the route. From here easy scrambling follows a ledge back to the gully, which is followed to where an heathery traverse leads back right under an intimidating wall. A tricky traverse further right, under the bulge, leads to a heather runnel that leads back up left to the arête. From there the route continues mostly up the exposed arête avoiding the worst of the difficulties mostly on the left, with plenty of exposure.

simoncov 5 May AltLd Nice route once it gets going. We had the ropes on all the way but moved together for most of it, and resisted the urge to avoid any difficulties by dropping back into the gully on the left. I didn't enjoy the scree chute to get to the start, and the first little traverse right under the bulge was pretty scary since it can't really be protected well. After that up the slab and the exposed wander along the crest was hair raising, with plenty more exposure and great positions later in the route too. Definitely recommended when dry.

Etta 5 May AltLd Brilliant scramble apart from the scary traverse at the start. Once that is done and dusted, it is a fantastic route with good protection if you need it, plenty of exposure and easy route finding. Brilliant for simul climbing and for practising your sewing (not so easy threading the needle with a backpack on, but it's doable!).

SCClimb 20 Apr Lead O/S Took the family up, hard to know where the route goes in its lower section, but the eye of the needle is obvious when you get there. Top is superb with great exposure, would love to find a better route through the start. Might on day become a classic.

Rob Griffiths 26 Mar - Chossy start and not easy in the wet. Upper section has some lovely positions. It’s quite exposed and I would rate it a good grade 3 in places. If it was a little less vegetated it would be a classic.

Astilath 7 Jun, 2018 Solo Near enough roadside as it only took 30mins to get to the start. Brilliant route. Moves out of the needles eye chimney bit were tricky and cool. Exciting all the way. Done with the setting sun perched in the notch on yr esgair and just enough cool breeze to keep the midges at bay. Cracking trip.

snowy_woodruff 2 Dec, 2017 Solo Very wet scramble. First Andre thought the conditions weren't for him and opted for a long walk back to the cottage along the old road. Ray found a bypass route round the first rightwards traverse and needles eye by dropping into the left gully. Murray, Petar and Meriel dropped into the right gully after the first traverse. Everyone returned to the ridge at various points, I completed the entire route from top to bottom. Some snow remained at the summits but this was rapidly being rained away. Finished up to the summit of Foel Goch then via Y Garn to descend through the Devil's Kitchen. This would be a lovely route on a warms summers day... but even when soaking wet the rock was good and some lovely exposed positions.
