βeta: We did this in November in knee to waist deep powder snow. These conditions are not optimal and led to building a snow hole. The fantastic summit winter sunrise is unlikely to outweigh the 3h to construct a snow hole. If considering this route check the descent route carefully. The “normal” way up is heavily crevassed, very long, and tedious. There is poor reception on much of the Doldenhorn/ route, you can’t rely on your phone as a map/ means of getting help.

βeta: Rock is pretty awful throughout. Fixed ropes on the first and third buttresses on the ridge are good though-mix of chains, cables and thick hawser rope. Summit ridge has amazing, exposed positions.

βeta: Fixed ropes are still in good condition, but we went slightly wrong on the rock ridge as our guidebook we used was a little vague. There are three "obstacles" on the rocky ridge before the snow: first a rock step a few metres tall (fixed ropes, easy to see), then a larger rock step (pass on the right up snowfields), before a final outcrop can be scaled by more fixed ropes on the left.
