The bouldering at Anston Stones Wood all takes place on land owned by Anston Parish Council. To preserve the good relationship that climbers have with the Parish Council, The British Mountaineering Council have agreed the following guidelines which we ask all climbers to adhere to:

  • Stick to existing footpaths and firm ground, avoid trampling on vegetation
  • Pick up any litter you come across
  • Stay off the railway line
  • Climb only on areas that have already been developed (i.e. Woody’s Rock, the Wave area, Rocky Valley, Hidden Wall, Apprentice Wall, Dukes Wall, Through Post, and Frodo buttress.)

In addition to the above, avoid topping out where possible.

Rockfax Description
Twin pockets mark the start. From the right of the two, head up via crimps eventually to a flake and then left to the same finishing ledge/feature that Jack The Nipper finishes on. © Rockfax

UKC Logbook Description
Start with your left hand undercutting the right of the twin pockets, move up to sloping edge. From here go left for a tufa then up to better crimps finish as for Jack The Nipper

βeta: The pocket with the wasps in isn't the pocket you undercut mentioned in the description. I'm not sure why this hasn't seen as much attention as the other problems here. It climbs exactly as described in the guide.

βeta: Right pocket has a wasp nest in. Put a stone in pocket to block anyone accidentally putting finger in it for now.
