Rockfax Description
A wire-protected escape route now leads down to the right (east) for those wishing to return to Rifugio Roda di Vael, however most parties choose to continue to the north following more signs to 'Via Ferrata Roda di Vael'. Follow the path with numerous switchbacks until you reach Forcella del Diavolo. Here is a superb rock window, the 'Fensterlwand', complete with a small inlaid cross. Shortly afterwards the first section of wire is reached with an awkward but well-protected brief down-climb into a loose col with dubious rock. The climbing then begins again. Pass a laddered section and continue easily, following more switchbacks to the broad summit marked with a large cross and route book.
Descent - From the summit of Roda di Vael descend to the north following intermittent wire down to Passo di Vaiolon. From here turn left and follow the zig-zagging path down a steep gully to the west until you reach path 549. Follow this south until path 539 leads back to Rifugio Paolina and the chairlift. © Rockfax
