Start at the far back right of the Amphitheatre at a gully. Scramble up slabs to the left and traverse right into the gully above its first pitch. Climb a short awkward step to a recess. Don't follow the gully left; instead climb an 8m wall to the right (easier than it looks) then a small slab on the left (exposed and needs tricky footwork) to come out onto a large sloping slab. From here scramble up small rock steps to avoid the grass and scree of the steep hillside until you emerge on the path to the summit of Carnedd Llewelyn.

jimorothy 17 Jul, 2016 Solo Well, the foxgloves and the walk in from the North were good. Bemused by the people who've made comments as for Amphitheatre Buttress here. A descent of Pinnacle Gully (a vertical grass-fest) later in the day was really not one of our better ideas.

mysterion 1 Aug, 2011 - Foxgloves all the way up! Ashton's description misses one of two initial slab left/chockstone right combinations - first one wet and vegetated so gave it a miss. The 'recess' is actually the gully bed, achieved by traversing a narrow ledge right on the second set of slabs. I confused the ledge for the 'recess' so got confused when later confronted by Ashton's 'short wall' - followed the path up to the chockstone obstacle on left instead (this is Ashton's 'loose gully'). Escaped this by climbing gully left wall, involving long step onto wet sloping hold, foot swap, then another long step onto top. Not nice. The ‘rock staircases’ above are very steep with much pulling on vegetation.

size9hex ??, 2008 Solo dnf Walked in to Great Gully during heavy rain on the grounds that the route was always wet anyway and would therefore be climbable. Called it off after seeing the amount of water pouring out. Attempted the Amphitheatre as a consolation, but retreated due to unsafe conditions and an uneasy feeling of an imminent landslide. News reports of landslides triggered by rain that weekend showed we were perhaps right to be paranoid.
