Restricted Access
Access to the summit itself is restricted. For the trail (Sendero) No 10, which leads up the last 200 m to the summit, a free permit is required and is checked for.
Numbers are normally restricted to 200 per day. Due to the limititation, please reserve your permit (especially during high season) 6 to 8 weeks in advance.
If staying in the Altavista hut you don't need a permit, but you must have left the trail by 9 am.
Alternatively wait until the rangers take the last cable car down. (16:50 pm resp. 18:50 pm).
The South´-West route starts at the Mirador Boca Tauce (2.057 m).
Walk along the TF38 road until you get off to the right at km 0.5. From here the trail ("Sendero") No 28 takes you through the Valle de Chafari up to the Narcices del Teide (2.752 m). Continue your way up and you will walk past the summit of Pico Viejo (3.135 m). Heading directly to Pico del Teide follow the trail further up until you reach the Mirador de Pico Viejo (3.528 m). Here join the short path No 12 to La Rambletas (3.550 m). From there the trail (No 10) takes you up to the summit of Teide (3.718 m).
