Restricted Access
Access to the summit itself is restricted. For the trail (Sendero) No 10, which leads up the last 200 m to the summit, a free permit is required and is checked for.
Numbers are normally restricted to 200 per day. Due to the limititation, please reserve your permit (especially during high season) 6 to 8 weeks in advance.
If staying in the Altavista hut you don't need a permit, but you must have left the trail by 9 am.
Alternatively wait until the rangers take the last cable car down. (16:50 pm resp. 18:50 pm).
Start at Cañadas road TF21 at km 40.5 (2.350 m).
Take the trail ("Sendero") No 7 via Montaña Blanca to the Refugio de Altavista (3.260 m) and from there to Mirador de La Fortaleza (3.537 m). Then join the trail No 11 to La Rambletas (3.550 m). The final trail (No 10) takes you up to the summit of Teide (3.718 m).

If the small (~10 cars) car park at km 40.5 is full, you can park at the Mirador de Tabonal Negro and walk the 800m back.
