After walking about 3km up the snow coach road, depart left up a cairned but indistinct trail, which follows moraines as it traverses to the right towards Mt Andromeda in the distance. Round a rock corner and turn left on a well-beaten trail up the left side of the amphitheatre between Athabasca and Andromeda. Stay left of the lower AA glacier, scrambling up a rock step and gaining the glacier above an icefall. Continue up the glacier, crossing the bergschrund to ascend steepening slopes which can be tackled on snow, ice or scree to the col. From the col, follow the West Ridge, above the Silverhorn route, on a gentler grade to the summit.
