Overview

17 lead walls grades ranging from F3+ to 8a+ with further extension to bouldering wall now offering up to 90 problems of a high standard.

A good tip, don't bring your crag sack as no bags are allowed in the room although lockers are provided at a small refundable charge. Harness, helmets and hardware available for hire.

The first thing to strike you is the Bouldering wall which runs the entire length of the room (approx. 30 ft), well contoured plus scattered bolt-ons, and a pocket in the overhang offering a unique fist jam in. The overhang at one end of the bouldering wall comes out for about 5 ft in a series of steps covered in the unique cracks and features apparent throughout the wall.

The main leading wall consists of contoured boards making the 30 foot high mid-section, coupled with a series of overhanging flat boards (more strenuous) and flat-boarded but easy angled slabs at the other.

Overall? A welcome site for those unlucky (or lucky) enough not to live in Sheffield; ! Comparable to the Edge or Foundry, in quality not quantity. It's got my Foundry money next winter.

A great wall with great atmosphere , boulder problems are updated at least every week. The wall also has a testing set of lead walls great for those winter training days! Routes are changed weekly so there's always something new to try.

The wall also has an extensive junior climbing club running clubs on week nights.

Now nearly 12 years old the wall has developed character and has been well worn in, as is part of a leisure centre (a non profit organisation) you aren't going to be ripped off.

The wall also runs an annual Bouldering Aggregate between October and February.

  • This is a friendly, amateur competition which is open to everyone.
  • The Competition starts on October 25th, scorecards are £5.50 (plus normal entry fee)and are available from reception.
  • For 16 weeks, 25 new problems will be set each fortnight, that's eight rounds for only £5.50 extra! - plus you could win a prize!
  • Prizes for the 2010-11 aggregate are supplied by DMM and Core Climbing Holds.

Went there several times while on holidays last week. To register, even if just for bouldering, you need to complete a form which asks for the name of the knot used to tie in to climbing harness and the type (not just manufacturer's name) of belay device used. A fair few routes and the bouldering is good. Helpful guys who run the climbing centre bit: helped us fit our 3 year old nephew into his full body harness and made time available for us on the easier sloping routes to coach him up. Would defintely visit again if in area. The locals will chat too if you're not too shy yourself.

Use the wall around 3 times a weeks. The routes are changed continuously, and the place has a great atmosphere. Mark, Malc and Tom are three great guys who always make you feel welcome. My second home
