Overview

Energise climbing facility was fitted out by Rockworks and opened in September 2006. It has almost 300 square metres of climbing with over 50 routes across the grade range. With a walls of 10m and 13m, separated by a 4m high bouldering area with fully fitted 300mm matting and integral campus board, slabs, overhangs and a large arch, the climbing centre offers challenges to the novice and experienced. The centre may be hired by clubs or used by the public and tuition is available for groups or individuals. Courses run regularly for juniors, beginners or improvers. We also offer birthday parties.

Not that great really. It tends to be always crowded. It makes for somewhat unsafe belaying when you have a child (or indeed a member of staff...) just wandering where they like around you. The atmosphere isnt that great either. I've climbed in centres all over Britain and this is one of the most unwelcoming. You get the feeling that its the 'staffs wall' and they would rather keep it to themselves and not have your muddy feet on it. Overall give it a miss and go to Leeds Wall. Longer travel but far better routes and with a far better 'craic' off the wall.

Great having a local wall. Small, compact, but decent enough. Good bouldering and rope climbing. Could be a little cheaper, especially off peak. Avoid after school - local kids will swarm all over..

It's great to now have a wall in York! It gets very crowded on an evening but everyone always seems friendly and shares the space well. There are plenty of top ropes including some on 6a + routes. More floor space would make belaying a little safer. I predict there will be some accidents before too long. That aside, I love it.
