Overview

Lochedge is a purpose-built, eco-sensible guest house in Màraig township, a mile below the main A859, Tarbert to Stornoway, road and 4 miles north of Tarbert; the main village and port on Harris.

There is excellent walking right outside the front door; An Cliseam, Tòdun and the Skeaudale Horseshoe for those who like the high hills and the Urgha footpath for those who prefer lower ground. Although there are few footpaths marked on the Ordnance Survey maps, there are good walks all over the island; high level routes on ridges that sweep down to sandy beaches; easier routes that take in antiquities and off the beaten track routes that take you deep in to isolated glens, where you'll find the eagle and the mountain hare.

"Walking on Harris and Lewis", written by Richard and published by Cicerone, brings the best of these routes together. We can recommend walks, lend you a route map and provide you with the latest weather forecast. Alternatively you can join the North Harris Wildlife Ranger who organises walks two or three times a week.
