Little Peak Press publishes and reviews books inspired by time spent in the mountains and other wild lands. We aspire to make beautiful books that take you to these places.

We sprang out of a passion for reading, writing and spending time in the mountains and other wild lands. A small independent publisher, we make and review books we hope will take you to these places - wherever you happen to be.

A number of the books we review and publish will be from the edges or close to them. Places that don't get visited all that often. We want to explore these places, to open up mountain and adventure writing a little more and see what's there.

Our two publications for this year are Tim Woods' Twisted Mountains and Heather Dawe's Mountain Stories.

'I am drawn to Tim Woods' writing because it explores what is carried, what is lost as well as what is found, placing mountain adventures in the context of complex (and often far from admirable) lives. Put simply, I love these stories.'
Helen Mort, from the foreword of Twisted Mountains.

Twisted Mountains Twisted Mountains is a collection of short stories set amoung the hills of Scotland, England and Wales, from Ben Hope to the South Downs. Each tells the story of someone who has their own reason to be in the mountains. From a vengeful student to obsessive hotel owner, the wannabe biker to the Wainwright expert with a secret.

While the stories are varied in their subjects, all have mountains at their heart and a dark humour running through them. Author Tim Woods tells them in the characters' varied voices, in ways that are shocking, dark, funny and sad.

You can read 'The Stravaiger' one of the stories from Twisted Mountains here on UKClimbing.

Mountain Stories Mountain Stories is an illustrated memoir of journeys through some of Scotland's most beautiful landscapes, including Skye's Cuillin, Knoydart, Assynt and the Far North. Writing during lockdown, author and artist Heather Dawe finds telling these stories a powerful means of reconnection with the mountains when they are physically inaccessible. Dawe's journeys are made by walking, running, cycling or sea-kayak. These stories are a reflection of the importance of wild places and the inspiration, art and culture associated with them.

'Love stories written to the places that made her, Heather writes without adornment. In doing so, she gets to the heart of the matter.'
David Lintern
