Macpac Pursuit 40 V3 Rucksack Gear News

The Pursuit has been through plenty of changes in the many years since its inception. However, It's always been designed to be a simple, durable and lightweight pack that's primarily suited to alpine climbing but also great for cragging, scrambling and hill walking.

The Pursuit 40 V3 is made entirely from 8oz AzTec Eco fabric. AzTec fabric was first developed by Macpac over 30 years ago when the brand was looking for a rucksack fabric that would stand up to the extremely wet climate of New Zealand's Southern Alps. AzTec fabric is based on a long staple, hardwearing cotton, abrasion and rot resistant polyester matrix. The individual yarns are treated with a unique blend of waxes and resins which boost water resistance and strengthen the fibres.

AZTEC ECO
ECO AZTEC® combines the strength of polyester with certified organic cotton.

Balanced durability, water resistance, and weight

The weave and treatment makes AzTec fabric not only strong and long-lasting but also very weatherproof. The 8oz Eco AzTec used on the Pursuit 40 V3 is an upgrade on previous versions of the pack being stronger and more durable. It's also more environmentally freindly as organic cotton is used in the manufacture of the fabric.

The Purusit is built around a simple back panel made using a non absorbant fabric to resist snow and moisture build up. The lightly padded hipbelt is removeable and a bivy mat is stored in an internal sleeve behind the back panel. The 40L capacity (37 litres for the size 2) is a versatile size for all round alpine use.

The pack has a zip around top entry which makes it super easy to access the contents in the middle of a route. There's a large zipped top pocket and the webbing closure doubles as a rope carry. Double ice axe loops are simple and easy to use and external daisy chains add extra storage options when needed. Side compression straps and wand pockets round off the features

The Pursuit is available in 2 sizes, which cover a big range of back lengths, and 2 colourways; Licorice and Mykonos. The pack weighs just over 700g for the size 2 which is pretty light considering how durable and weatherproof the Aztec Eco fabric is.
