Joe Browns & The Climbers Shop - Our Heritage & Joining Forces Online Press Release

Joe Brown Shops (est. 1966) and The Climbers Shop (est. 1959)

We are coming together online; our website and newsletter are joining forces.

Without boring you with the technical details, our separate Joe Brown and The Climbers Shop websites are merging so that we can offer a single, simple site that is easy to shop regardless of what device you may be using. The deals will be the same, the prices will be the same as we offer in the shop and you will still be able to accrue loyalty points to use either on the website or in any of our shops when you visit. In fact, you will be able to see if the stock is available in the shop you are visiting and click and collect if you wish.

You may have already seen a link between Joe Browns and The Climbers Shop but who exactly is Hooked on Granite Ltd?

Well, the short answer is – it's us! The long, & far more interesting, answer is part of a story that began almost 60 years ago when hemp ropes were in vogue & rubber soled climbing shoes were still being eyed with caution. Our shops are amongst the oldest, independently owned outdoor kit shops in the country & we are very proud of our heritage. In 2016 the Joe Brown shops celebrated their 50th anniversary & in 2019 The Climbers Shop turns 60. As part of the celebrations we have been digging into the history archives & enjoying fascinating interviews with Joe Brown, Sir Chris Bonington & Joss Naylor & unsurprisingly, we have quite a story to tell. The full document will be ready next year but in the meantime, click below for a potted history of our shops so far…….

With over 100 years combined of retail heritage, our shops are incredibly proud to offer a huge choice of clothing and equipment for climbers, mountaineers, hill walkers and trail runners.

Behind every great business is an even greater story to tell. And here is ours and why we are joining together online. We have more of a connection than you may think!

I read the full story on the website (link in article) and enjoyed it so would recommend anyone else who might be interested to do so.

I liked the 60s adverts for rucksacks. Does anyone know what is £5 4 and 6 in new money, and is that more or less (taking into account inflation and average weekly wages) than one of the pricey new ME Tupilak rucksacks that we've been discussing the price of?
