MSR® Hubba Hubba® NX Tent wins Outside Magazine’s Gear of the Year Award

New, lightweight MSR Hubba Hubba NX tent offers unparalleled livability

MSR (Mountain Safety Research®) is honored to announce its new Hubba Hubba NX tent has won Outside magazine’s prestigious Gear of the Year award in the “tents” category. Outside magazine’s editors awarded the Hubba Hubba NX—the flagship, two-person tent from MSR’s reinvented Hubba® NX Collection—for its innovative design, livability, and functionality.

Since its release in 2004, the three-season Hubba tent collection has been widely recognized as the top choice for serious backcountry travelers who demand a lightweight, livable tent capable of handling real-world conditions. This year, MSR has radically redesigned the iconic collection, reducing the award-winning Hubba Hubba NX tent’s weight by 9 ounces.

The original Hubba Hubba was a great tent and so I was really excited to see what MSR did to make it better, and so was my team of testers. When they heard I had the new Hubba Hubba NX everyone wanted a turn testing it. Everyone agreed, from the stuff sack to the door shape to the interior layout, the tweaks made the tent a nicer home,” said Sam Moulton, editor of the Outside Buyer’s Guide. “It feels three-season bomber with plenty of room for two, but still remains lightweight and compact for carrying. It's the tent we'll be carrying into the backcountry this summer.

The freestanding, two-person Hubba Hubba NX tent weighs a trim 1.54 kg (3 lbs. 7 oz) and features an optimized pole geometry for maximum livability. Two Stay-Dry™ entrances with large, adjustable vestibules allow easy access and plenty of gear storage while a mesh canopy and adjustable, vented rainfly offer excellent airflow and unrestricted views. The livability experience is further enhanced by MSR’s classic color scheme, providing optimal natural light within the tent, and a clever, side-loading compression stuff sack allows the tent to pack up quickly and impressively small.

Over the past year, Outside Buyer’s Guide subjected the Hubba Hubba NX tent to a mix of heavy rain, wind, and cold, crisp fall conditions on a variety of backpacking, river, and car camping trips. It outperformed all other tents.

“We are honored the Outside Buyer’s Guide selected the Hubba Hubba NX tent as the best three-season tent of 2014,” said Chris Parkhurst, vice president of MSR. “Congratulations to the MSR shelter team, who worked diligently to make this next-generation Hubba Hubba NX significantly lighter and more livable. The Gear of the Year award is the best possible recognition for all that hard work.”

Does it still have the same inherent flaw of previous incarnations where the user occasionally gets wet and tent fills up with water when the weather is windy and raining (due to water being blown up between the inner and outer skins/parts? It was this aspect that convinced me never to buy another one of these tents. Andy

Ive got a Hubba HP and its an amazing little tent but agreed that the outer could do with be a few inches longer. I find the door the most problematic. You either end up with 'slack' in the porch or a gap. Still highly recommended as its good value for money and weighs absolutely nothing.

Think I have the Hubba HP 2009 (bought in 2009), bought in the UK. Yes it weights not much, but you often forget this benefit when everything in your tent is wet!

Yeah looks like it still has that problem. Oh well that's a shame, I've been looking for a new tent.
