1st August 2013 saw outdoor manufacturer Marmot soft-open its first UK partnership store in Ambleside, in collaboration with Adventure Peaks, the technical outdoor retailer and expedition company.

Marmot Store - Ambleside

Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park, Ambleside is one of the busiest and most important focal points for specialty outdoor retail in the UK. The new Marmot store occupies a highly visible location at the corner of Lake Road and Kelsick Road adjacent to Adventure Peaks’ main store. There has been significant investment by both Marmot and Adventure Peaks over the last two months to completely upgrade the property to provide a high quality retail environment over two floors, and includes locally sourced slate floors, bespoke shop fit, and state of the art low energy lighting system.

Above the Marmot Store will be situated another first: The Ambleside Cave. Also run by Adventure Peaks, this will be the Lake District’s first indoor caving experience with 70m of purpose built tunnels and will be available on a turn up and try basis.

Andy Schimeck, Managing Director of Marmot Mountain Europe, commented on the new Ambleside store:

“To support Marmot’s strategic brand development in the UK, Ambleside was identified as an ideal location for a partnership store. In such a high profile outdoor destination the challenge was always to find the right partner and the right property, until Adventure Peaks approached us with the perfect solution. It gave us the very prominent location we were looking for, and in partnership with an already successful Marmot dealer.

Dave Pritt, Managing Director of Adventure Peaks said:

“It’s fantastic to be able to expand our company in partnership with Marmot and offer another new experience to our customers. Marmot’s brand reputation and strength has given us the confidence to really get behind this venture and the ability to create a very special retail environment. It’s been developed over a rapid time frame and we’re delighted to have opened it in time for the summer trading period. The added attraction of the Ambleside Cave gives another great reason for people to visit the store.”

Official Store Opening Date

The official store opening is scheduled from 12.00 noon on Sunday 25th August and will offer visitors the opportunity to meet members of Marmot's climbing team including Lucy Creamer, one of Britains most accomplished and well known female climbers. Also in attendance will be some of Adventure Peaks' most successful expedition summiters, as well as special guest Sally Whittaker (who plays Sally Webster in Coronation Street). She'll be there for the official ribbon cut at 1.00pm and all proceeds from visitors through the Cave on opening day will be donated to the Genesis Breast Cancer Charity of which Sally is a Patron.

Selected locations for Marmot flagship and partnership stores

In 2011, Marmot opened its first European flagship store in Nuremberg, Germany, and its first European partnership store in Bolzano, Italy. In 2012 the London Flagship Store opened at Westfield Stratford, and a partnership store in Finale Ligure, Italy. Ambleside is the newest addition for 2013, and will be joined by a partnership store in Riga, Latvia in September. Marmot has ongoing plans to open selected flagship and partnership stores in strategically important locations throughout Europe.
