The Berghaus Live for Adventure Challenge will give people the opportunity to present their idea for an expedition to a live audience and be in with the chance of winning £1,000 financial support plus £1,000 worth of Berghaus kit. The event will be held on Saturday 19 May, with leading climber Mick Fowler as master of ceremonies.

The Berghaus Live for Adventure Challenge has been running for two years and has so far awarded 12 prizes of financial and product support to a wide variety of trips, from climbing in Greenland and walking across Europe, to cycling around the world, canoeing in the Himalaya and trekking across Costa Rica. Every winner has been chosen by a public vote and has embarked on what for them has been a genuine outdoor adventure. The event at Keswick Mountain Festival will be the first time that Berghaus has run the challenge in a live environment.

The competition is open for entries now and members of the public have until Friday 27 April to send their adventurous ideas to enquiries@berghaus.com. Berghaus and Keswick Mountain Festival will select a shortlist of five, who will be invited to make a five minutes presentation in the Berghaus Live for Adventure Theatre on 19 May. A combination of the judging panel and public acclaim will decide the overall winner, but every shortlisted entrant will receive a jacket and rucksack from the latest Berghaus range, along with tickets to see Mick Fowler and Sir Chris Bonington speak later the same evening in Keswick.

Kate Thomas, director of Keswick Mountain Festival, comments: “We're really excited about the Berghaus Live for Adventure Challenge. It's a great concept that we think can work really well in a live setting. Keswick Mountain Festival attracts adventurous people from all over the UK, so we're sure that there will be some really strong entries.”

Caroline Smith, head of marketing for Berghaus, adds: “The wide range of activities that Keswick Mountain Festival puts on for visitors mirrors the variety of winners that we've supported through the Berghaus Live for Adventure Challenge. We loved the idea of running a one off challenge in the theatre – it's a great way to both celebrate and support adventure, and should be an entertaining couple of hours too.”

The Berghaus Live for Adventure Challenge at Keswick Mountain Festival will take place between 3.00pm and 5.00pm in the Berghaus Live for Adventure Theatre. Entry into the theatre is free, but donations towards Nurture Lakeland's Fix the Fells project will be welcomed during the event.

To enter the Berghaus Live for Adventure Challenge at Keswick Mountain Festival, email enquiries@berghaus.com with the subject line 'KMF Adventure' and outline in no more than 150 words details of the planned trip and why it deserves to win support. Additional supporting material, such as imagery or maps, is welcomed.

Keswick Mountain Festival will run from 16 to 20 May, with a packed programme of activities and live events. For more information and to book tickets, visit www.keswickmountainfestival.co.uk
