This autumn The North Face is celebrating the record-breaking first winter ascent of Gasherbrum II (8,035m / 26,362ft) in Pakistan with 'The North Face Speaker Series European Tour'. The North Face Speaker Series brings together the expedition team of Simone Moro, Denis Urubko and Cory Richards to tell their inspirational tale live to European audiences.

  • The London tour date is 17.11.2011 and the place is the Royal Institute of Great Britain.

Tickets are available free for a limited time online on a first-come-first-served basis (click here). You can follow The North Face Twitter competition throughout October to win VIP tickets to each leg of the tour.

The North Face Speaker Series will visit five key European cities - Turin, Barcelona, Moscow, Munich and London - from the 8th to the 17th November, 2011. The complete TNF expedition team of Simone Moro (ITA), Denis Urubko (KAZ) and Cory Richards (USA) will share their personal stories of the 37-day, 2011 winter expedition live on stage.

Located in the Gilgit Baltistan province in Pakistan, near the Chinese border, Gasherbrum II, also known as K4, is the 13th highest mountain in the world and the third highest peak of the Gasherbrum Massif in the Himalayan Kakoram range. First climbed by an Austrian expedition, Fritz Moravec, Josef Larch and Hans Willenpart, on July 8th 1956, GII's time-line of 'first' ascents and descents number less than ten. The remaining four 8,000m peaks that haven't yet been climbed in winter are all located in the Karakoram, Pakistan.

The men will recount the highs of achieving the first winter ascent - to the lows of surviving an enormous avalanche on the precarious descent back to base camp. Enduring freezing -46° temperatures, blizzards and fierce winds; the intense and inspirational story is also vividly brought alive with an exclusive film edit and unique photo gallery all taken by Cory Richards.

More about the expedition team:

Expedition leader and renowned Italian alpinist, Simone Moro has over 40 expedition achievements to his name, including eleven in winter. These include the first winter ascents of Cerro Mirador (1993); Marble Wall (2001); 8000m Shisha Pangma (2005); the historic summit of the 8,481m Nepali peak, Makalu (2009).

Moro's decade-long climbing partner, Kazakh Denis Urubko, who also partnered Moro in Marble Wall, Shisha Pangma, Makalu, and GII has summited the world's fourteen 8000m peaks without oxygen.

Offering a unique perspective to the expedition is Cory Richards, the first American climber to make an 8,000m winter ascent. Richards not only climbed alongside Moro and Urubko, but captured the expedition's key moments on camera.

The North Face Speaker Series is presented by Primaloft and supported by Jeep.
