Premier Post: Student Internship with Action Outdoors-Chamonix UNIVERSITY INTERNSHIP POSITION 2011/12

Company Description

Action Outdoors ( http://www.action-outdoors.co.uk ) was established in 2004 as a UK Partnership with UCPA - a French Non Profit Organisation that offers Sports and Activity Courses throughout France. We are essentially a fast growing internet based company run by staff who love being in the outdoors.

During the winter we operate in all of the major ski resorts in the French Alps. We offer instructional courses in skiing, snowboarding, speed riding and freeriding. We have the option to sell Ice Climbing, Ski Touring and Winter Mountaineering courses too. Action Outdoors has recently started marketing the UCPA summer activities located in a selection of UCPA's 140 sites across France. We hope to establish ourselves this year and expand the summer market potential in 2012.

Action Outdoors are partners with Snow Express - a winter coach service that runs from London to 45 destinations across the French Alps. Snow Express started in 2009 and has doubled in size this season. We also own and manage a selection of chalets in Chamonix.

Job description

The Internship 2011/12 position is open to a student who is willing to work as part of a tight team. You will be studying Computer Science or Programming, possibly even Engineering Cybernetics. We will, however, look at other degrees if your interest is genuine. You will ideally have back end experience in an internet based company and enjoy finding solutions to problems. A full driving license is essential for this position.

Based in Chamonix Mont Blanc, the job is highly varied and incorporates all parts of the business. For Action Outdoors and Snow Express general tasks include logistical planning and executing, marketing and sales, social networking, website content, analytics, meeting and greeting of groups, resort repping, socialising with clients staying at UCPA and organising evening activities for specific weeks during the winter season.

The Chalets require general maintenance throughout the season. Basic practical skills would be an asset but not essential. Splitting wood, changing light bulbs, mowing the lawns, painting, gritting the driveway, snow clearing and vehicle maintenance are all ongoing tasks. These would be expected of the placement student in addition to the admin and office tasks regarding the chalet rentals.

A typical week in the winter would involve 4 days based out of the office with a day free skiing but transporting Chalet guests to the slopes. Saturday is spent transferring clients and meeting coach passengers leaving Sunday as the official day off. During the summer, the hours are much more relaxed.

This is a very rewarding position for a motivated student looking to gain experience within a very entrepreneurial company. If you are interested in joining the team then please send us an e-mail ( info@action-outdoors.co.uk ) explaining why and what skills you are able to offer us and attach a current CV by 20th May 2011. Successful applicants will receive an interview scheduled over the summer period.

It is a paid position, with accommodation and food included - just being honest that the winter is manic BUT we (the whole team) would prefer to be out skiing everyday!! We need someone that is keen to work and help out rather than not turn up for work, sorry, and better to request this from the start....

you want a chalet host who also reps and maintains your website? I see three jobs there tbh! saying that id take that job in a seconds if i wasn't committed else where. I have chalet hosted in the past, its a blast, the only reason i did it was for the time off; about 6 hour on the mountain a day plus a day off. the best time of my life!

Hey there, I'm really keen on applying for this post, however, obviously my degree isn't what you're asking for. I really feel that I would be awesome in this post. Would you consider a Disaster Management student? Matt
