LifeStraw - Trusted in emergencies, trusted in the back country Gear News

Our products have to work - because lives depend on them.

LifeStraw products have a long history of use in some of the harshest conditions on the planet - from refugee camps to natural disasters, to the extreme back country. Our testing and transparency is unparalleled, as is our commitment to social impact and sustainability.

Humanitarianism is our Heritage and at the Core of what we do.

LifeStraw was born out of an effort to eradicate guniea worm disease in partnership with the Carter Centre that began in 1994. 25 years later LifeStraw has provided more than 38 million Guinea worm filters to support disease eradication. In 2020 alone we donated 520, 000 filters.

For every product sold, a child in need receives safe drinking water for a year.

LifeStraw's flagship program is unique in that it is entirely implemented by the company. We support 40 full time staff in Kenya and make a 5 year commitment in every school we work in. Thus far over 3 million children have received a year of safe water to this programme - all funded entirely by customer purchases.

Planet Earth could use some help as well

LifeStraw is a part of Climate Neutral and is a certified carbon neutral company. As such we measure our emissions every year and then completely offset those emissions through the purchase of carbon credits.

LifeStraw's packaging now plastic free and built of FSC mix paper or compostable elements such as up cycled sugar cane waste. Going forward you won't find any plastic blisters, bags or wraps on or around the product.

Do the filters really work?

It's always good to check! So far as we know, LifeStraw is the only filter brand that owns and operates it's own ISO certified water laboratory capable of performing cutting edge tests on microbiological performance, longevity, turbidity reduction and other key perfomance criteria.

Then to be really sure and totally transparent, LifeStraw also tests it's products through external labs. LifeStraw's performance exceeds all the major recognised standards and protocols from internationally recognised bodies such as ANSI, WQA, US EPA and WHO. Evidence dossiers are freely available to view on the LifeStraw website.

Back to the beginning: The LifeStraw Personal

Evolved directly from the simple pipe filter created to strain out Guinea worm lava, the LifeStraw Personal has barely changed in 25 years. Tough - no moving parts to break and light at a mere 46g, this filter can be carried wherever you adventure and provide up to 4,000 litres of clean, safe drinking water.
