What is a Go Box?

Well, it's a box (any box will do), that you keep packed with everything you need for whatever adventures you like to go on. Keep it in your car, store it under the bed, have it waiting by the door. No more excuses that you can't find your head torch, no forgetting to replace your gas, no leaving your Ti mug at work: when the opportunity to get out presents itself, you'll be ready.

Go Box Bundle

So what do you put in your Go Box?

It depends what you're getting up to really, but there are some fundamentals that you're not going to want to forget. Where ever you're heading, you'll need to eat, you'll need to stay hydrated, you'll need to see when night falls, and you'll need to carry your rubbish away with you when you head off… So why not start with that? We'd recommend the following:

Cooking System

  • The Koro mountaineering stove is more than a match for whatever culinary creations you're concocting! It's light and compact enough to take on any adventure, yet powerful enough to get a right good meal on – just don't forget to pack a gas canister too!
  • Mustn't leave your pots behind! Alipots 4-piece pan set stacks together like a set of Matryoshka dolls (with fold away handles too) to give you the maximum amount of pan for the space! The lids of the 1 and 1.7 litre pans double up as frying pans, so you can really get creative with your camp cooking.
  • The Concertina windbreak keeps the wind off your stove to make your gas canister last that bit longer. It folds up nice and small when you're not using it, perfect for your Go Box!

Tableware

  • It may seem like a luxury, but a lightweight camping table like the Splitta does wonders for your camping comfort and weighs less than 400 grams – so there'll be no more crying over spilt tea!
  • Having forgotten cutlery on more adventures than I'd care to remember. Having a dedicated Go Box cutlery set (like the TiMigos or Snapwire cutlery sets) has saved the day on multiple occasions!
  • A Kelvin insulated titanium mug is a pretty handy thing to have around camp – no one likes cold tea or soup after all! Alternatively, if you want to take your drink out with you, the Clip flask keeps it warm until you're ready to drink it.

Lighting

  • Head torches are invaluable as soon as night falls! You can't go wrong with a Viper II, but the Gamma III comes in handy if you're walking on roads as the rear red light makes sure you stay safe and seen!
  • It's not a necessity, but packing a lantern for camp helps you avoid shining your head torch into your mate's eyes. Something small, light, and niftily convertible like the Trinity Lantern is has become a Go Box staple at AKHQ.

Housekeeping (those bits and bobs that you always forget)

  • Bin bags - vital for making sure you leave no trace
  • Kitchen roll and tin foil - ideal for wrapping up your lunch for the next day
  • Loo roll – well you never want to be caught short do you!
  • A corkscrew or bottle opener (need we explain?)

Marketing Man Dan's overnighter Go Box (pictured) has most of the basics covered, so why not start with that?

(We were so inspired that we made this go box camping bundle to get you started. Unfortunately we don't sell whisks, you'll have to source one of those yourself).

RRP: £243, but on sale for £198
