James Pearson is one of the UK's most talented climbers and has been since a young age. Cutting his teeth on gritstone he made early repeats of Hard Grit routes culminating in the third ascent of Equilibrium E10. He then went onto add his own creations including The Groove at Cratcliffe, one of Gritstone's last great problems. Spreading his wings further he established The Walk of Life on the sea cliff of Dyer's Point in Devon. He is now resident in Austria where is establishing multi-pitch climbs and honing his sport climbing skills.

You can read a fuller CV of his climbing life at www2.thenorthface.com and at www.wildcountry.co.uk. At UKClimbing.com you can find out more about James in this interview Exclusive Interview: James Pearson by Jack Geldard

Highlights this year include climbing Muy Caliente! an E10 in Pembroke from the ground up with no practice from a top rope, a superb and bold achievement; plus his recent trip with Alex Honnold to Chad.

James has always been very frank and honest about his climbing, he blogs extensively about his life, not just climbing, and his lecture promises to reveal more about his motivations, his adventures and his life.

The North Face Night - Part 2: Gasherbrum II Team of Cory Richards, Denis Urubko and Simone Moro

In February 2011 the Italian Simone Moro (CV), Denis Urubko (CV) from Kazakhstan and Cory Richards from the USA achieved the first winter ascent of Gasherbrum II (8,035m / 26,362ft) in Gilgit Baltistan province in Pakistan, near the Chinese border (see the NEWS FLASH below for details of their latest adventure).

At Kendal the men will recount the highs of achieving the first winter ascent - to the lows of surviving an enormous avalanche on the precarious descent back to base camp. Enduring freezing -46° temperatures, blizzards and fierce winds; the intense and inspirational story is also vividly brought alive with an exclusive film edit and unique photo gallery all taken by Cory Richards. This is Simone Moro's third 8,000m peak climbing in winter and Denis's second, Cory Richards is the only American to summit any 8,000 meter peak in winter.

NEWS FLASH: Moro, Urubko and Richards to attempt Nanga Parbat in Winter

Departing after Christmas celebrations straight into the heavy winter conditions, Nanga Parbat, the last great mountain in the Himalaya, boasts the highest face in the world. A favourable summit bid, in pure alpine, light, fast style, will be dependant on a minimal weather window between end of January and March 2012. The North Face® three-man expedition team hailing from three continents - Simone Moro (ITA), Denis Urubko (KAZ) and Cory Richards (USA) – are famous for the first winter ascent of 8,025m Gasherbrum II (GII) in Karakoram, Pakistan, in February 2011.

Leader of the expedition is renowned Italian alpinist and The North Face® athlete, Simone Moro, who, with over 40 expedition achievements to his name, including eleven in winter, has paved the alpine history books with the first winter ascents of Cerro Mirador (1993); Marble Wall (2001); 8000m Shisha Pangma (2005); and, the historic summit of the 8,481m Nepali peak, Makalu (2009); and 8,025m Gasherbrum II (2011).

Accompanying Moro is decade-long climbing partner and mountaineering stalwart, Kazakh Denis Urubko. Urubko, who partnered Moro in Gasherbrum II, Makalu, Shisha Pangma and Marble Wall, has summited each of the world's fourteen 8000m peaks without oxygen, including opening new routes. Experienced by GII, American climber and outdoor photographer, Cory Richards, will not only climb alongside Moro and Urubko, but aims to capture the expedition's key moments digitally.

Located in the Gilgit-Baltistan province of Pakistan, Nanga Parbat is the 9th highest mountain in the world and the second highest peak in Pakistan. First climbed by an Austrian alpinist, Hermann Buhl on July 3rd 1953. Nanga Parbat is also known as 'Killer Mountain' being one of the most deadly 8000ers, having claimed many lives between 1930-1953 and in recent decades. It is considered one of the most seriously difficult to climb and has been the most attempted 8,000mer peak in winter since 1990.
