Alpkit Apogee Jacket Product News

Tough and toasty Primaloft Gold winter belay jacket for keeping warm when resting, at belay stances, and between those stints of being a hero.

Whether you're crawling out of your tent on a cold morning, belaying your partner from the top of a pitch, waiting for the midnight changeover on a 24 hour enduro, or emerging from an open water swim, who would say no to being swaddled by 100gsm of Primaloft Gold insulation?

Apogee is the ultimate protection for those cold damp winters, we can't think of a scenario where we wouldn't want one in our packs.

Designed for warming up after working hard in cold climates, Apogee's water resistant outer can more than handle the demands of hero life. The low maintenance, toasty Primaloft Gold fill retains thermal properties when wet, and dries quickly.

With frozen belayers in mind, a helmet compatible hood, integrated wrist-warmers, and an internal zip baffle fend off draughts. The two-way zip makes it comfy over a harness, and a relaxed cut lets you layer up when the temperatures plummet. With less insulation in the arms and hood it allows for more freedom of movement.

"This has quickly become my number one go-to-jacket! I love the bright colour and simplicity, and it performs exceptionally well. It is baggy enough to fit a good amount of layers underneath, but smart fitting enough to look great as a casual about-town jacket too. The pockets are nice and big with a comfortably fitting hood. This jacket has kept me warm skiing in minus-ten sunshine, and winter climbing in gruelling Scottish winter. The fact that it is synthetic means I can worry less if it gets a bit wet. I highly recommend the Apogee jacket as a comfortable, versatile and very attractive jacket." - Anna Wells

Primaloft Gold is a synthetic fibre which create millions of tiny air pockets to trap body heat, keeping you warm in colder conditions. It uses a water repellent finish to improve performance in extreme conditions, maintaining its thermal properties even when wet. Primaloft Gold has a better warmth to weight ratio than standard synthetic fibres. It's also easy to care for, packable, breathable, and super soft: mega!

This looks like a good replacement for my das parka, has anyone compared the two?

Thank goodness they went with the big mesh pockets inside, not a belay jacket in my mind without!

It won't be anything like as warm as the DAS — more like the ME Fitzroy. The DAS has much more insulation.

They are nicely designed jackets but as Jonnie says much more like a Fitzroy in warmth. I know its a belay jacket for when the sh#t hits the fan but I still dont like how shiny bin bag like the outer is .

I bought both myself and the missus one they are indeed very much like the ME Fitzroy. Both in style and warmth. I don't mind the shiny outer look. I've just finished a week in the snow in Glencoe. It was brilliant!!!.

The missus loves it so much she's taken to wearing it all the time.

For £160 it's got all the same features, same warmth. Big mesh pocket on the inside and you know if anything does occur Alpkit are almost legendary in their customer services dept.

I just looked to see the spec on the das and have found it discontinued, I imagine numbers sold have gone down since they got rid of the bright colours but it's a shame to see such a good bit of kit go.
