Quadratic Tent System – New 2 Person Mountain Tent

The Theory Works has introduced the Quadratic Tent System. Designed for the mountains, a unique new pole structure allows additional poles to be added to enhance the strength of the tent. The two person tent is a system of components: so the tent can be customized when purchased - and reconfigured to suit every trip and season.

The Quadratic pole structure is based on a three pole tunnel design. This makes the tent easy to set up in extreme weather, and the small panels and streamlined shape make it very strong despite its comfortable size.

Optional side poles are a unique feature, which greatly enhances the tent's resistance to side winds. They make the central part of the tent free standing, and much more stable and quiet. Use no side poles, or one, or two, or even two on one side – depending on the trip and the conditions.

An optional top pole increases the tension at the top of the tent. This minimises the amount of snow that can collect on the top of the tent, and also improves stability in high winds.

The Quadratic Tent System's high performance and durability come not only from the pole structure, but also the materials used. Silicone coatings on both sides of the nylon fly fabrics make them incredibly tear resistant. Duraflex® hardware, YKK® zips and hypalon reinforcements are all used to provide as much durability as possible.

Being a tent system also improves long-term durability. Ever thrown a tent away because the poles were broken, or because the fly was torn or UV-damaged? The Quadratic system makes it easy to buy a spare part. If needs change, just buying one or two extra components can make the tent perfect for a completely different type of trip.

A tent including inner tent, outer tent, poles, pegs and guy ropes starts at around €490. The customization tools on the website make it easy to design and order the perfect tent for your needs.

This is precisely the sort of product that appeals to my nerdy tent fetish. Hence I will refuse even to go to the website in case I buy something.

All manufacturers should be falling over themselves to replace bits of tents rather than have to buy a new one.

Just had a play with this and like the idea - I have the cross-pole addition for my Henry Shires Scarp which turns a single hoop tent into something really beefy. I could easily have gone for one of these modular tents were I starting out buying tents now, but the website needs to give a total weight for the thing as you add bits to it!

If you go to the customisation page there is a download that shows all the specs and weights for all variants.

I'd like to have that recalculated automatically as I go so I can play easily with combinations.

Fair enough. I like having it all on one sheet for easy reference, but each to their own.

It's a bit like some people preferring the Romans, whilst others prefer the medieval :-)

Either way it looks a very nice tent...
